What is detox ?
There has probably never been a greater need to detox the body, due to the age we live in as there are now 60,000 MORE chemicals being exposed to the average person on a DAILY basis than only 50 years ago.
Clothing, fabrics, carpets and furniture are all pre-treated which all add a toxic load to the liver. Couple these with chemicals used within the household – there’s a different cleaning product for just about anything – and food additives, colourants, preservatives, fizzy drinks, herbicides and pesticides… Phew! It’s little wonder that the body can reach overload.
Couple this with a sugar intake 1000 higher than only 100 years ago and it’s little wonder that Type 2 diabetes is the fastest growing disease of the modern age. Note that it is no longer referred to as “Adult Onset Diabetes” as children as young as 5 are now being diagnosed.
Our bodies naturally detox every day. Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. There is natural cycle of movement in and out of our cells of Potassium / Magnesium plus Sodium / Calcium.
However, in our world today, body systems and organs that were once capable of cleaning out unwanted substances are now completely overloaded, and this leads to many unwanted substances remaining in our tissues. Sodium and Calcium can become misplaced in the body and this can lead to an acid build up in the cell – and cellular acidity levels are the known trigger for cancer and many major diseases.
Our bodies try to protect us from harmful material by setting it aside, surrounding it with mucus or fat, so that it won’t cause imbalance or trigger an immune reaction. (Your body stores foreign substances in its fatty deposits- a significant reason to keep your body fat low. Some people carry up to 15 extra pounds of mucus that harbours this waste!)
In an ideal world, we would live in a pollution-free environment, eat untainted foods and drink pure water. However, this simply doesn’t happen, so the next best thing is to keep pollutants to a minimum and to periodically get rid of them through a detoxification programme.
